The Language curriculum is focused on creating confident, joyful readers, and is intended to be used by both primary and lower elementary aged students.

One hallmark of the Montessori environment is beauty, and Language Arts program is no exception. These visually appealing materials make it easy to prepare an attractive Montessori learning environment that will appeal to your youngster.

It’s no surprise to most parents that young children thrive with hands-on, movement based learning that stimulates all of the senses. That’s just one reason why Montessori homeschooling curriculum allows you to quit the overwhelm, embark on a joyful journey with Montessori at home, easily create a Montessori way of learning and set the stage for a lifetime of success.

There’s also opportunity for learning in other areas such as movement, art, order, fine motor skills and gross motor skills, which are all interwoven into this Montessori program.

Like all of our subjects, our phonics curriculum is crafted especially for use by homeschooling parents. It does not assume that you have specific Montessori classroom materials or training. It is visually engaging and works for multiple age groups. Most importantly, the homeschool curriculum supports multi-sensory, kinesthetic learning and is streamlined to save time and be fun!

The goal of our Montessori approach to phonics is to provide a solid foundation on which children can build their reading journey. The order in which the letters are presented and the included activities reflect the following principles:

  1. Continuous, rather than stop, sounds are introduced first. These sounds can easily be said and combined by most children.
  2. More commonly used letters are introduced first.
  3. Short vowel “Aa” is introduced during the first week, so that children can immediately begin sounding out “a” CVC (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant) words in combination with other letter sounds they know.
  4. New sounds are taught in small steps, consolidating previous sounds.
  5. Repetition is vital to long term memory of letter sounds, and therefore, review weeks are built into the program regularly.
  6. Visually similar letter sounds such as “d” and “b” are taught separately to avoid confusion.

Research shows that children learn best through play with integrated movement. So, our movement-based sound games are key!

How Montessori Education Compares To Public School Standards

Montessori materials teach through hands-on methods to help children learn at their own pace.

While public schools push rigid concepts and steps every child must follow in the exact order and at the same pace the schools outline, Montessori subjects – is about self-directed, self-paced and multi-sensory learning.

It fosters a love of learning and marks advancement based on the development of a child as a whole.

Montessori students universally perform above grade level in Language. Perhaps this is because children learn using attractive materials that invite repetition and investigation.

Learning Language With The Montessori Method

Our Montessori language arts curriculum does NOT follow the Montessori Scope and Sequence. Instead, it streamlines and lightens the load of teaching children to read and write using a multi-sensory, kinesthetic approach in your Montessori home environment.

With our Montessori writing supplement, you’ll get your child comfortable with writing letters and build a firm foundation for the writing process.

As your child works through the four steps of  reading, the Writing Supplement can be used as a bridge between steps 2 and 3, or as a review tool. The only additional tool your child will need to use the  Writing Supplement is a pencil. The Writing Supplement is provided in both print and cursive, so you can use either (or both!) at your discretion. Montessori at home has never been easier!
